That’s my mum, Kaye, on the left and me on the right.

Hi there, I’m Kate, granddaughter of the late and great Kath. Nana Bawden (aka Kath) was a country cooking queen. She would spend all day in the kitchen baking, and without the fuss and frippery synonymous with cooking today.

When Nana passed away recently I inherited her ever trusty Sunbeam mixer, her Tupperware (old school Tupperware cannot be compared to) and her other kitchen bits and bobs. Most importantly though, her cookbooks. Thousands of hand written and collected cuttings.

The recipes range from the traditional (see Nana Bawden’s famous Rum Balls), to the dated (Steak and Banana Casserole) and the quirky (Choux Pastry Swans anyone?). Reading these books is like taking a delicious history lesson.

So, my mission is simple: To one by one recreate Nana Bawden’s recipes and share the triumphs and the failures…Better buy myself some bigger trousers.

Kate I love reading about Kath and the photos, you are doing a great job, and I have tried out some of the recipes, it is fun and brings back so many memories of my favourite aunt and uncle.
